I’m a rugby league supporter. I was born in the Watersheddings area of Oldham, Lancashire, close to the old rugby league ground that bore the same name.
I supported the Oldham club in the 80s and 90s before it went out of business. A phoenix club rose from the ashes but I moved to West Yorkshire around that time and became a lapsed fan.
In 2014 I attended my first game for years and my interest was rekindled. I went full-on in 2015, attending most home and away games. I ended up engaging with the club to rebuild their dreadful website, set up an e-commerce shop and after a while a dedicated ticketing platform. I also started acting as an on-field match photographer and became a co-author and producer of the match-day programmes.
Around 2020 I started attending Leeds Rhinos games, later becoming a season ticket holder. I’ve lived in Leeds over 20 years so I’m basically from that city now.
In 2023 the Oldham club was sold to new owners and although they started with much promise, it was easy to see a shit-show unveiling. I took my ball and bat home and that was that. Fuck ’em. I haven’t attended an Oldham game in 20 months. I still have an interest in the club though.
This year, 2026, I’m going to write some Super League and Championship match predictions, preview and review Rhinos games and also comment on the rolling shenanigans over on the other side of the pennines.
Oh yeah, and that’s Eddie Waring up there in the header. Apparently he’s buried up in Bramhope, not too far from Headingley. Might pop up and pay my respects this year.
